If you plan purchase for renovation a home built, prior to 1978, be aware there may be additional dangers of lead paint and asbestos products throughout the building making it a health hazard for the renovator and an expensive proposition t have the asbestos safely removed. As hands on, practical, creative person, I have needed to be cautious to avoid contact with asbestos because of the risk it presents to cause mesothelioma I have already given up making pottery to protect my lungs from silicosis so I have left the job of stripping out the old walls of bathrooms to the experts who know what they were doing and confined myself to the creative work of decorative tiles and painting. Here are some photos of decorative tile work at the SPC Ardmona, Kidstown, venue at Mooroopna, another great example of functional art using ceramic tiles to form murals around planter boxes and public conveniences. I became involved in crafts making soft toys for my own children when they were young. My mother would 'roll over in her grave if she knew I cut up one of her three treasures Russian marmot fur coats and made it into a giant teddy bear bean bag seat for my daughter Carla, gave one to the opp shop and the other went to the Dandenong Theatre Company for costums. One person's treasure is another's craft supply. I have been sorting out my acrylic paints for the 2010 painting tour. I plan to use acrylic paint within the caravan in the evenings and I want a small compact kit. Most of my acrylic paints are in either 1 litre large bottles, or 500 ml jars or a few old and hard to read the description or colour, tubes. They need a good sort through. I began at the supermarket and I bought tight fitting lidded, plastic containers, 100 ml empty bottles, and small condiment containers. I decanted 100 mls of paint from the larger bottle s into my smaller bottles until I had one well-packed set of every colour paint I had, in one container. |
