A set of  three CDs by Graham Wilson.  1. All The Answers  2. Partially Cloudy 3. From There to Now

Born in Scotland, Graham's early memories were of his father playing records by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem and The Corries, he bought his first guitar aged nine and has spent the last 42 years trying to play it. "I heard Graham Wilson sing at Glen Helen in Central Australia and I want more! His music is as stark and raw as the mountains of Central Australia and those of his native Scotland. There is an authenticity to Graham that is very rare nowadays: a fine entertainer." Ted Egan 2009. Graham uses vocals and acoustic guitar.

Moss Vale Park
14 km north of Leongatha, on the Tarwin River, is Moss Vale Park, with its English and European ornamental trees and shrubs. Each February the Victorian Concert Orchestra plays in the park's sound shell. The event attracts thousands of visitors. Moss Vale Park Concert.

Next week, Reg and I will be picnicking in Moss Vale Park, one of our favourite rest break places in Gippsland. It is beautiful parkland, developed by Francis Moss, who developed a substantial nursery and planted, vast quantities, of deciduous trees, which are so suitable to the cold winter climate of the mountain country in Victoria. In late February, when we are there, I hope to see some of the beauty of the autumn colour beginning to appear in the foliage.

I have always been a huge fan of deciduous trees in landscaping around a home and in parklands. Aside from the incredible display of green gold, through orange red and bronze display in autumn, there are the benefits of winter sunshine reaching the ground, summer cooling shade and beautiful spring green renewal of growth to inspire and lift one’s spirit.

Reg and I are watching the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games, here in the cool front room of our summer studio retreat. We have bamboo external  window blinds, heavy millennium, heat reflecting, curtains to use on the occasional heat wave day, we are insulated and now have a functional, air conditioner, but the most benefit comes from one beautiful, old, deciduous, maple tree, in our front garden. Without that one stately tree, our summer retreat would have been a hot on site van and annex of little interest to me, as a place to be creative, each summer.  Yes I adore deciduous trees. :-)

I have illustrated this post with the fridge magnet of Buninyong in autumn. Beautiful Buninyong is the oldest inland town in Victoria and is where Reg and I had our, Buninyong Gallery, during the peak of my art profession career.

If you are a reader of my ‘gone bush’ blog, you will know that I have been testing out a Nintendo Wii, Wii sports, Wii Fit Plus and the Wii Biggest Loser program, to see if they will be suitable to use in the confined space of a caravan as a fitness gym for a pair of touring seniors.

So far, Reg and I are having a fantastic time using the programs. Reg loves the Wii Sports and as an ex bowler and golfer he is happily playing these games again in our lounge room.
When Reg starts to Wii jog, I join in and jog beside him. I pick up 1 kilo hand weights and move those in a jogging rhythm if I am going at a fast pace or I will do actual weight work out exercises with them if I jog a little slower.  These are lower weights than I regularly work out with, but I do not normally jog at the same time.

Then I usually try to beat Reg’s skiing performance and have a go at the energy burning hula-hoop, which seems far too much fun to feel like I am exercising.

Then sometimes in the afternoon, if Reg has gone to bed for a nap, I do my full body workout in the Biggest Loser program and my Biggest loser, weight loss yoga.  Both give me a fantastic work out and I end it with the cool down stretches.

As a keen fitness interested senior I am so pleased with our Nintendo Wii and I intend to make sure I use it and gain the fitness benefit from the programs I chose to go in the Wii package, I put together.

I can understand some of my friends choosing to have lap band surgery.

I am finding ways, to not overeat, most of the time and I have been able to incorporate exercise into my life, so I am managing if not totally mastering, my weight.

I accept that not everyone can do this. While there are risks to any surgery, I see friends younger than I am, who could not manage their weight, being diagnosed with diabetes. I feel that lap band surgery before you get to that stage, if you’re not managing to get weight off with every other healthy method you try, might be the right option, for some people and I wish my friends who choose this path, all the very best, I know they did not rush into the decision J.

For me the risk and discomfort of the surgery is not something I want.  I know that well researched medical travel  or medical tourism as it is often called is making elective surgery more affordable but even without the high cost, I still prefer my own slow steady progress of losing weight without the surgery.

If I was not making progress, if I was still struggling to gain control and was not able to master my emotional drive to eat more than my body needs, most of the time, if I felt my weight was going to place me at sever health risk, then I too might have considered lap band surgery.  It is an individual decision not to be taken lightly and those who choose it have my support.
